An Epic Pittsburgh Proposal at Mt. Washington Overlook

Some proposals are sweet.
Some are thoughtful.
And some are truly epic.

This Pittsburgh proposal had everything — meaningful planning, a surprise concert weekend, a private overlook, hundreds of candles, and the most iconic skyline in Pennsylvania glowing behind it all.

How It All Started

Bennett’s mom originally reached out to me to help plan a beautiful and meaningful proposal for her son and his soon-to-be fiancée. They live in Michigan, but were coming to Pittsburgh for the weekend to attend the Sabrina Carpenter concert.

While they were in town, Bennett wanted to ask the biggest question of his life — and he wanted to do it somewhere classic and unmistakably Pittsburgh.

We immediately knew there was only one place that would deliver the kind of moment he was envisioning:

Mount Washington Overlook

The skyline views from Mount Washington are iconic. The bridges, the rivers, the city lights — it’s timeless, romantic, and undeniably Pittsburgh

Making It Extraordinary

Bennett wanted the proposal to feel elevated and unforgettable, so I sent over a few company recommendations to help bring his vision to life. He chose:

The Candlelight Wedding Co.

And it was the perfect choice.

Their team went above and beyond — reserving the overlook for a private event so no onlookers would interrupt the moment. They blocked off the space and transformed it into something straight out of a movie.

They created:

• A rolled-out white aisle
• Hundreds of glowing candles
• A large “Marry Me” marquee display
• A perfectly styled proposal space overlooking the skyline

It felt intimate, cinematic, and completely magical.

The Perfect Timing: Dusk in Pittsburgh

We decided to plan the proposal at dusk.

This gave us:

• Soft, natural light for the beginning of the proposal
• The golden glow of sunset over the skyline
• Candlelight ambiance as the city lights came alive

It was truly the best of both worlds — natural light portraits and dramatic, romantic evening imagery.

The Surprise

To make everything seamless, Bennett shared their location with me from his phone so I would know exactly when they were approaching the overlook.

Timing is everything with proposals.

As they walked up the white aisle surrounded by candlelight, with the Pittsburgh skyline glowing behind them, everything came together perfectly.

She said yes. 💍

The skyline, the candles, the emotion — it was one of those moments that gives you chills as a photographer.

We captured portraits with the city in all its glory before the couple headed off to celebrate at:

A celebratory dinner overlooking the same skyline where they just got engaged — the perfect ending to an unforgettable night.
